Now we need to find the number of remaining days. We'll do this by writing a different kind of formula, shown above. This formula subtracts the first day of the ending month (5/1/2016) from the original end date in cell E17 (5/6/2016). Here's how it does this: First the DATE function creates the date, 5/1/2016. It creates it using the year in cell E17, and the month in cell E17. Then the 1 represents the first day of that month. The result for the DATE function is 5/1/2016. Then, we subtract that from the original end date in cell E17, which is 5/6/2016. 5/6/2016 minus 5/1/2016 is 5 days.
Indemnity Bonds: As set forth above, bid bonds, performance bonds and payment bonds are indemnity bonds. These bonds are not insurance policies. If a covered claim arises against a commmercial general liability policy, the insurer has a contractual obligation to indemnify and defend the insured (. the party obtaining the policy) and cannot seek repayment from the insured for amounts paid out as a result of a covered claim. If a claim arises and is paid out on a bid bond, performance bond or payment bond, the surety (the party issuing the bond) will look to the contractor to indemnify and defend it. So, if a claim is asserted against Contractor XYZ’s performance bond, the surety is going to look to Contractor XYZ to defend the lawsuit and to pay any damages.
12. What was an early job that taught you something important or useful?
I was a consultant at a early internet company in 1993. The [team] asked me to teach a class in this programming language, even though I didn't actually know [it]. I remember walking in being terrified to teach this class, and then came to realize I only needed to be a couple chapters ahead of the students. It was intimidating and scary, but it's a lesson that if you can get confidence around what you do know and be vulnerable about what you don't, you can sell your way through it.
